Fed Cup finals will not take place until 2021

The Fed Cup final tournament in Budapest will not be rescheduled until next year. The World Tennis Federation (ITF) announced on Friday that a rescheduling of the event canceled in April due to the corona crisis was no longer possible in the current year.

The game will now be played from April 13 to 18, 2021 with the twelve teams that have already qualified, including the German women's team around team boss Rainer Schüttler. The original competition in 2021 was dropped, and the tournament returned to its usual rhythm in the 2022 season.

"Of course it's a shame, but we kind of expected it. We were all really looking forward to the finals and would have loved to play in Budapest this year. In the end, the cancellation for 2020 is probably the right decision. This year is just everything is different, "said Barbara Rittner, Head of Women's Tennis at the German Tennis Association (DTB). The German women qualified for the final round with a 4-0 win against Brazil earlier this year

In mid-June, the ITF and the ATP and WTA professional tours published the new calendar for the resumption of gaming. The tournaments are scheduled to begin again in August, with the first highlight being the US Open from August 31.

It was also announced on Friday that the Davis Cup final in Madrid will not take place until 2021.
