Since the noisy separation from Ivan Lendl last year, Zverev has been mainly coached again by his father.

In the 15-day "trial period", the future relationship between the two should be determined, the statement says. For the Ferrer Tennis Academy, it was "a privilege" that one of its directors accepted the challenge of working with a player of Zverev's caliber. The management of the world ranking seventh has not yet responded to SID requests. The Spanish newspaper Marca first reported on the planned collaboration.

Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann has a high opinion of Zverev's potential new coach. "David Ferrer stands for intensive training, intensive work, bringing 100 percent for every day. If you can get it in any function, that's a positive story," he said at Sport1.

Zverev had recently received criticism for his behavior during the corona pandemic. In the coming week he should start at the show tournament "Bett1Aces" in Berlin (from July 13th). The ATP tour is scheduled to resume play in mid-August, with the US Open starting on August 31.
