This was announced by the organizers of the grass classic three days before the start of the tournament on Friday. In addition, the British tennis association LTA and the club, which, despite heavy criticism from the tennis scene, has excluded Russian and Belarusian players because of the war of aggression, are donating £250,000 to refugee aid.

"I am delighted to welcome the Ukrainian refugees who are staying at Merton and Wandsworth to the middle Sunday matches," said Ian Hewitt, Chairman of the All England Club. He hopes for a "special atmosphere" on a special day in Wimbledon history: At the 135th edition of the Championships, the middle Sunday of the tournament is officially part of the schedule for the first time. So far it had only been used four times (1991, 1997, 2004 and 2016) as an alternative day.
