Now an exciting duel with Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland / No. 16) or Andy Murray (Great Britain) is waiting for the climber of the past few weeks.
On the other hand, Anna-Lena Friedsam failed. The 26-year-old from Neuwied lost her opening match against Alexandra Sasnowitsch (Belarus) from Belarus 2: 6, 6: 2, 3: 6. At the tournament in Paris there are ten German professionals in the race.
Friedsam classified the external conditions after their match as "very tough": "I can hardly remember that it was like that in the course of my career."
