It was the excitement on day 3 of the French Open 2020 that may have turned a whole match. What happened?

Kristina Mladenovic was 5-1 in the game against Siegemund and had set point when she stopped. Siegemund sprinted there, played him back and Mladenovic touched the net. Point for Siegemund if the ball hadn't already bounced twice on their side. And that was how the TV pictures showed./

Mladenovic's intervention with the referee was unsuccessful, however, Siegemund fended off six more set balls and turned the match - 7: 5, 6: 3 in the end. The double jump? Of course it was a crucial scene.

Mladenovic: "She would have been the fairest player on the tour"

"Of course you can call that a key scene, it would have been a 6-1," Mladenovic said in the subsequent press conference. "How the match would have turned out then is not known."

The Frenchwoman did not expect that Siegemund would have reported to the referee herself. "She would be the best and fairest player on the entire tour if she had done that. Unfortunately, she didn't. But I didn't expect her to either." Siegemund, however, is "not the one responsible, but the referee."

victory or wrong decision

Siegemund: "It's unhappy, no question about it

"She had six other set balls," replied Siegemund meanwhile - but also showed understanding for Mladenovic. "Of course that's unfortunate, no question about it. And then you might be emotional and say: She has to say that, that it was twice! But I didn't notice it 100 percent. I'd rather blame myself for that I didn't close the other six things. "

It was "a tight situation", said Siegemund, which in the end, similar to Mladenovic, identified the culprit. "If he was really twice, it was a wrong decision by the referee."
