Daniil Medvedev presents himself as exchanged at the French Open 2021: The Russian, who has not won the main draw of the clay court classic until this year's edition, is getting better and better - and is already in the quarter-finals. Because even the clay court specialist Cristian Garin was not able to oppose the world number two to a certain extent and was downright lost in the first two sets in particular.

This was due on the one hand to a below-average performance by the Chilean, on the other hand to an extremely aggressive Daniil Medvedev, who never let his opponent develop. First. After the world number two had won the first two sentences with great sovereignty, Cristian Garin put in a medial time-out - and the Russians were upset.

Medvedev catches up

Curious moments followed at the Philippe-Chatrier Court: Medvedev immediately decided to play a game on being treated for himself - but there were no signs of this to be seen. In addition, the Russian made no secret of the fact that he was not happy about this time-out. The consequence: Garin grabbed an early break and quickly took a 3-0 lead - a first in this game.

But then Medvedev seemed to recover, got eight points in a row - and thus the rebreak to zero. A final turning point in this game: Medvedev had everything under control again and finally bought his ticket for the round of the last eight with 6: 2, 6: 1 and 7: 5. The Russian secured the decisive break thanks to two absolutely insane forehand longline winning strokes. Shot of the Day brand.

Well against Tsitsipas

In the quarter-finals, Daniil Medvedev now meets the form-strong Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who left Pablo Carreno Busta very few chances in three sets. A possible semi-final opponent would be the German Alexander Zverev.
