Let's start at the top of the tableau: There is Novak Djokovic's name firmly carved into it. The Serb is still engaged in Belgrade this week and starts his French Open 2021 against Tennys Sandgren. The first person in Djokovic's way would be Ugo Humbert in a "normal" tournament, after which there could be a meeting with either Alex de Minaur or David Goffin. In the quarter-finals there would be a hit against Roger Federer.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal, who is aiming for his 14th title on the Bois de Boulogne, was drawn into the upper half of the table as number three of the tournament, so he can already meet Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. Nadal opens against Alexei Popyrin and might have Lorenzo Sonego and Jannik Sinner or Gael Monfils as early opponents on his way to renewed triumph.

Dominic Thiem, finalist at the French Open 2018 and 2019, may initially run against routine Pablo Andujar, and should meet Fabio Fognini in round three. Thiem's quarter-final opponent would be Alexander Zverev according to the seed list.

Alexander Zverev, who has already won Acapulco and Madrid this season, will face a qualifier in round one.

This is what the quarter-finals for men look like according to the seeded list:

Novak Djokovic (SRB / 1) Roger Federer (SUI / 8)
Rafael Nadal (ESP / 3) Andrey Rublev (RUS / 7)
Dominic Thiem (AUT / 4) Alexander Zverev (GER / 6)
Daniil Medvedev (RUS / 2) Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE / 5)
