If the results continue to be correct, Stefanos Tsitsipas will certainly not mind playing a third night session without spectators at the French Open 2021. As in round one against Jeremy Chardy, Tsitsipas prevailed against John Isner in round three in front of empty grandstands. The Greek won 5: 7, 6: 3, 7: 6 (4) and 6: 1.

Isner not only started strong as a server, the uncompromising manner of the American was also initially rewarded in the rallies. Like with the break to 6: 5 in round one, which Isner brought home with ease. In damp conditions, Stefanos Tsitsipas got better and better into the match, Isner, on the other hand, complained about problems with the serve, pleading with referee Kader Nouni to close the roof over the Court Philippe-Chatrier. The American's wish was not granted.

Tsitsipas now against Carreno Busta

The decision was probably made in the tie-break of the third set. Isner went into the short decision with the clearly better annual balance sheet (10: 2 versus 7: 5 by Tsitsipas), but the Greek played incredibly focused and mercilessly exploited every small weakness of his opponent. And these weaknesses were meanwhile also of a physical nature at Isner - while Tsitsipas got better and better. The fourth set was with the 6: 1 then almost only a matter of form. After 2:39 hours of play, Stefanos Tsitsipas made his entry into the round of 16 of the second major in 2021.

There it is now against a completely different gambler: Pablo Carreno Busta is waiting. An opponent who doesn’t shine with monster hits, but with his persistence in the basic blows. And his fitness.
