Alexander Zverev is in the semifinals of the French Open! The third in the world rankings prevailed on the Philippe-Chatrier court against Carlos Alcaraz 6: 4, 6: 4, 4: 6 and 7: 6 (7). About three weeks ago, Zverev was clearly inferior to the Spaniard in two sets in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid .

In Paris, however, Zverev undoubtedly showed one of his best performances of the season. After a balanced start, the Hamburg player managed the first break in the fifth game, which he then transported without any problems to win the first set.

Alcaraz turns up at the end of the third set

The spectators saw a similar picture in the second section. This time Zverev only managed to break in the seventh game, but again this should be enough to win the set. It only got a bit tight when being served, but Alcaraz carelessly missed a chance to make it 5:5 with a return error on the second serve.

In the third period, neither of the two players was able to set any decisive accents, only when the score was 4:4 did it get really exciting again. Alcaraz fended off a breakball from Zverev and a few minutes later secured the set win thanks to a fantastic return game.

Zverev in the semifinals against Djokovic or Nadal

In the fourth set, Zverev knew how to seize his chance in the ninth game thanks to a double fault by Alcaraz, but the Spaniard hit back at the last moment and made it 5: 5. In the tie-break, the 19-year-old had to admit defeat despite a set point: After three hours and 18 minutes of play, Zverev converted his second match point to a 6: 4, 6: 4, 4: 6 and 7: 6 (7) success .

"I knew that I had to play my very best tennis from the start," said Zverev after the match. He did that. In the semifinals, the German will meet Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal on Friday. The giant duel between the two exceptional talents will be available from 8:45 p.m. in the tennisnet live ticker .
