The result of 6: 1 and 7: 6 (2) for Kerber already indicates that Jacquemot, who won the junior competition in Roland Garros in 2020, knew how to defend herself better and better as the game progressed. One long game followed the other, as in round one, Kerber had to fight Madgalena Frech from Poland. After a playing time of almost two hours, the German number one made it into the third round in Roland Garros. The last time she got that far was years ago.

After winning the first set, Kerber made a break again, it looked like the three-time Grand Slam winner would march through. Jacquemot suddenly found this match enjoyable, managed the rebreak and played his way into the tiebreak quite safely. In the short decision, the sides were changed at 4: 2 for Kerber, Jacquemot narrowly missed the sixth point. As well as the ball to 5: 2 for Kerber. The local hero could not recover from this deficit.

A meeting with Aliaksandra Sasnovich is now waiting for Friday. Kerber only won against the Belarusian a week ago on her way to winning the tournament in Strasbourg. Sasnovich defeated US Open champion Emma Raducanu 3: 6, 6: 1 and 6: 1 on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the only remaining German representative in Paris besides Kerber was eliminated: Andrea Petkovic lost to Victoria Azarenka 1: 6 and 6: 7 (3).
