The Norwegian Casper Ruud is in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. The night of the world rankings from Oslo needed 2:31 hours in Paris to beat Hubert Hurkacz from Poland 6:2, 6:3, 3:6, 6:3. Ruud is the first Norwegian to get this far in the clay court classic.
Hurkacz, on the other hand, missed out on becoming his country's first player since Wojtek Fibak in 1980 to reach the last eight. Ruud, who has already won titles in Geneva and Buenos Aires this year, now meets the winner of the match between 19-year-old Dane Holger Rune and last year's finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.
