It could have been a symbolic picture: When Alexander Zverev fell on the Suzanne-Lenglen court in the third game of the third set, the German number one seemed to provide the right picture for the supposed slip. But the 24-year-old fought back, turned a 2-0 set deficit against compatriot Oscar Otte and qualified for the second round of the French Open.

After the qualifier got off to a strong start, Zverev found his way into the match better and better as the game continued, and Otte left his strength by the middle of the fourth set at the latest. The world number six took advantage of this mercilessly and left his opponent three years older no more play in the decisive set.

Zverev now against Safiullin or Taberner

Even the empty grandstands in the last round due to the exit restrictions did not affect the flow of play in Zverev, at times the German was already showing the tennis that led him to victory at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid.

After 2:49 hours of play, the US Open finalist from last year used his first match point to win 3: 6, 3: 6, 6: 2, 6: 2 and 6: 0. Zverev now meets Roman Safiullin or Carlos Taberner in the second round.
