The spontaneously interspersed visit to Geneva had several positive effects for Alexander Zverev - apart from the fact that the German number one had to struggle with Nicolas Jarry until late Saturday evening. But: in the end there was Zverev's eleventh tournament victory, the first in 2019.

And the discovery of a new playmate, at least for training purposes. Hugo Dellien had apparently made so much of an impression on Zverev during his quarterfinal defeat in Geneva that the two had agreed to a training session at the Jean Bouin training center on Monday from 1 p.m. However, the Colombian did not fill the two hours, Zverev did it under the guidance of Alexander sr. with Sergej Bubka jr. and in constant exchange with Physio Hugo Gavril. Bubka, until recently also a man with tennis ambitions, has been with the Zverev team for several months.

Not on Court 22: Ivan Lendl. the super coach from the USA had been absent all spring, because of his allergies. Mischa Zverev, older brother of the German number one, assumed after his defeat against Richard Gasquet that the former industry leader will no longer come to Paris.

Millman calibrated in the German Bundesliga

Alexander Zverev is not at the top of the favorites list in Paris. As long as Rafael Nadal is playing there is basically less space. The draw for last year's quarter-finalists is at least sporty, Zverev starts against John Millman. The French edition of the tennis magazine raised the native of Hamburg to the front page when previewing the French Open 2019.

Millman may be far behind Alexander Zverev in the world rankings, at position 56. The German will certainly not underestimate his opponent. Last fall, Millman defeated Roger Federer at the US Open under the toughest conditions, and the man from Brisbane is also with you with European ashes. Among other things because of his appearances in the German tennis Bundesliga for the TC 02 Weinheim.

Millman lives from his excellent footwork, the very big weapons are missing him. In contrast to Alexander Zverev, of course, who can dominate a game with his first serve alone. Which would also contribute to the general relief in the camp of the German number one: last year Zverev had to go the full distance in the first three matches.
