Rafael Nadal - as usual the defending champion in Paris

Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem - the men's French Open could be as exciting in 2019 as it has been for a long time! Except ... Rafael Nadal is playing on sand again like Rafael Nadal is playing on sand, which looks like after his opening in Monte Carlo.

While from a German point of view Philipp Kohlschreiber, Jan-Lennard Struff, Mischa Zverev, Peter Gojowczyk and - thanks to protected rankings - Cedrik-Marcel Stebe are in the main field alongside Sascha Zverev, only Dominic Thiem is directly qualified from an Austrian point of view.

Protected Ranking also includes Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Jozef Kovalik and Janko Tipsarevic.

The last directly qualified actor is Alexander Bublik as the current number 100 in the world. If players canceled until the start of qualification, the next-placed players would move up. Like Maximilian Marterer: As number 101, he is only one place "outside", but would still slip into the field with the first refusal.

Naomi Osaka and defending champion Simona Halep lead the women's field, Angelique Kerber is number five in the world as safely as Julia Görges, Tatjana Maria, Andrea Petkovic, Mona Barthel and Laura Siegemund. Zarina Diyas is number 108, the last directly qualified player.

Decisive for the direct qualification is the current ranking from April 15th. (six weeks before the tournament starts).

The draw for the main draw will take place on Thursday, May 23rd, while the main draw for the French Open will start on Sunday, May 26th.
