The marathon was followed by a sprint: Alexander Zverev quickly reached the third round at the French Open in Paris. After his more than four-hour crime story in the first round against the Australian John Millman, the fifth in the world rankings made his match against the Swedish qualifier Mikael Ymer much easier and brisker: For his clear and over a long distance also convincing 6: 1, 6 : 3, 7: 6 (7: 3) on the new court "Simonne Mathieu" the ATP champion only needed 1:59 hours.

The sometimes overwhelmed Rasta-Man Ymer (20) only had a chance to return to the match against a very focused and determined Zverev (22) at the end of the third set.

The man from Hamburg dictated the game with strong serves and placed basic strokes, mostly looking for a quick decision against the 148th in the world rankings, who only played his second match at a Grand Slam. In this form, a clear victory should also be possible for Zverev in the third round, where he meets Dusan Lajovic (Serbia / No. 30) or Elliot Benchetrit (France).

Before the match, Eurosport expert Boris Becker once again quietly criticized and mocked Zverev's style of play, who was too far behind the baseline. In the meantime, however, the opponents had adjusted to this style and found a solution. "And that worries him that he hasn't developed his game any further. You have to keep developing," stressed Becker. His colleague John McEnroe also warned that if Zverev did not move a bit further and closer to the baseline, he would "stand still" in his development.
