Naomi Osaka will not play another game at the French Open 2021 after her press boycott. The four-time Grand Slam winner announced her retirement on Monday evening.

Osaka, one of the defining figures in women's tennis, had announced before the French Open that it would not participate in any of the usual press conferences - with reference to the fact that in these question-and-answer games, too little consideration was given to the mental health of the players and too often the same questions have to be answered.

Osaka was sentenced to a $ 15,000 fine practically in the name of all four Grand Slam tournaments, but that wasn't enough: Instead of simply announcing further fines for further boycotts, the planet's highest-earning female athlete was threatened with disqualification - with a reference to the willful rule violation that represents a kind of breach of contract.
