Tennis can be so crazy: Just the one of the three Austrian tennis professionals, who was probably least trusted in the run-up to the respective game, made it into the second qualifying round of the French Open on Monday. Julia Grabher clearly defeated the Spaniard Aliona Bolsova, who was in second position, 6: 2 and 6: 3. She now meets Marie Benoit.
Barbara Haas, on the other hand, was not granted any success. The Austrian number one fought their way into a third set after losing the starting set and 1: 4 deficit in the second round, but ultimately lost 4: 6, 6: 4 and 1: 6 against Harriet Dart.
Novak and Ofner in action on Tuesday
On the first day of the tournament, Jurij Rodionov was the only Austrian player in the men's competition. The 22-year-old, who had reached the second round of the main draw in Paris last year, clearly had to admit defeat to German Tobias Kamke 4: 6 and 0: 6.
On Tuesday, Dennis Novak (against Mario Vilella Martinez) and Sebastian Ofner (against Juan Pablo Varillas) will also intervene in the tournament.
