Roger Federer beat Marin Cilic in four sets

When Roger Federer and Marin Cilic faced each other for the last time, it was a Grand Slam title in Melbourne in 2018. A little more than three years ago, the Swiss should prevail and in Paris it was ultimately the 20-time major champion who left the place as the winner.

Federer stumbled after a sovereign first set in the second section - also due to a time violation in the case of a setback - and had to give it 2: 6. The 39-year-old won the decisive third round after a strong tie-break.

In the fourth set, the world number eight managed a break to 3: 1, in order to finally steer the game in the right direction from his point of view. After 2:35 hours of play, Federer used his second match point to win 6: 2, 2: 6, 7: 6 (4) and 6: 2.

In the third round he now meets Dominik Koepfer. The German won his second round match against Taylor Fritz in four sets .
