Ofner prevailed after 2:04 hours of play with 4: 6, 7: 5 and 6: 1. And was able to convince above all with his serve: While the Austrian hit nine aces, his opponent only managed one. Ofner's next opponent caused a little surprise in the first round of qualifying: Elias Ymer was able to beat Christopher O'Connell, who was third, 7: 5 and 6: 4.

Austria's second starter, Jurij Rodionov, begins his attack on Tuesday against Matteo for a place in the main field. Should Rodionov and Ofner win their first two matches, there would be a direct encounter in round three.
