The round of matchballs started in Indian Wells in 1990, when Stefan Edberg defeated Andre Agassi in the final - the American should take revenge at the next tournament in Miami. And so the almost two-hour journey began, with a strong German impact in the 1990s by Boris Becker and Michael Stich - and then again by Alexander Zverev's three Masters successes so far in Rome, Montreal and Madrid. And the victory at the ATP Finals 2018.

Dominic Thiem naturally found his place of honor, the success in Indian Wells 2019 made it possible. However, Thiem had to hand over the last match ball at a Masters or ATP final tournament: last November to Stefanos Tsitsipas .

There are great rallies to be seen - like the last points of the final in Rome in 2011 or Miami in 2014 (both times Novak Djokovic won against Rafael Nadal). But also unspectacular tasks: Djokovic had to pass against Andy Murray in Cincinnati in 2011 in the second set, Kei Nishikori had to cancel a final against Nadal in Madrid. And Roger Federer could not compete against Djokovic at the ATP Finals in 2014.
