A for serve ... The opening of the game is always from below and diagonally across the court.

B as in balls ... The game is played with pressureless balls, which enable longer rallies by slowing down the pace of the game.

B for floor covering ... The floor covering in the padel courts usually consists of artificial turf on which fine quartz sand is scattered.

D for double ... Padel, as it is known and played in Europe, is always played in pairs.

L for Lob ... The pros like to use Lob as a variation - not only as an emergency strike, but even as an offensive option to push the opposing pair against the wall.

S for racket ... The padel racket has a solid hitting surface in which holes are also allowed. At the end of the maximum 20 cm long handle is a loop that is placed around the striking hand.

S for Spielfeld ... The padel court is ten meters wide and 20 meters long. A net in the middle separates the two sides of the game. The square is surrounded on all sides by three to four meter high walls. These may be included in the rally.

S as in Stars ... The padel scene is dominated by both men and women from Spain and Argentina. For men, Juan LeBron and Alejandro Galan are currently leading the annual ranking of the World Padel Tour. Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay hold the top position among the women. By the way, all four are from Spain.

V for federations ... Difficult topic: The international umbrella organization is the FIP (International Padel Federation), founded in 1991. But the World Padel Tour also organizes tournaments worldwide and has its own world rankings. The best players compete in both the FIP and WPT events.

W like Vienna ... In June 2022, a tournament of the World Padel Tour was held for the first time in the Austrian capital. As a combined event of women and men, as usual on the tour.

Z as in counting … Padel is counted like in tennis, the game is usually played for two winning sets to six, with a score of 6:6 there is a tie-break.
