Generali Race to Kitzbühel: Hot nights at UTC La Ville

An emerald green and approx. 20 cm large piece of glass is currently the new, very large object of desire in popular red-white-red tennis. You take this noble-looking trophy home with you if you can win one of the twelve qualifying tournaments for the Generali Race to Kitzbühel that are scattered across Germany. After the successful double-pack kick-off in Linz and Annenheim, the tennis circus of hobby players made a stop in the federal capital for the first time last weekend. At UTC La Ville, just over 150 players ensured a record-breaking happening around the small yellow ball made of felt.

How great the devotion and passion of the hobby player for the beloved tennis sport really is in the days after the almost seven months of lockdown, and how much the leisure Rafas after the main prize of the Generali Race to Kitzbühel - the 34,000 euro and 150 hp Cupra Formentor - strive, as evidenced by the following little anecdote. It is the day of the final at 7 a.m. when the later winner of the ITN 4 category, Alexander Pilsz, dials the number of the vaccination hotline in Vienna. "I would like to postpone my appointment today for the corona vaccination," the 29-year-old Tyrolean asked politely on the phone, and a friendly lady in the call center there directed to an alternative appointment as soon as possible. This cleared the way for his evening night session appearance at the center court Lance Lumsden, which he was able to crown after 70 minutes and after 3: 5 deficit in the first set against young star Martin Sepulveda with 7: 6, 6: 2. In the end, the "Tiroler Export" had put three of the young "full power" generation in their place on the way to the race leadership. Because while Baumgartner-Lemberger, Linsbichler and Sepulveda "pounded" through the tournament with a lot of force, Pilsz countered with a lot of wit and quick legs.

The most advanced teenager in his development at the previous Super-Weekend at the Generali Race to Kitzbühel at the UTC La Ville was without a doubt Sebastian Wojta. He is the HTT shooting star of the 2021 season, which has been running for three weeks, and with three 6: 2, 6: 1 wins and only nine games submitted, he rushed to title honors in the ITN 2.5 competition and an emerald green crystal. Afterwards there was a first test seat in the winning car. There were also "10 points - ten points" for Darius Sajadi in the ITN-5 tournament. The 14-year-old youngster from the Praterclub WAC actually had no major problems on his way to the final and, among other things, said goodbye to number 1 in two straight sentences during the tournament. However, his final appearance against Christian Vollmann from Hietzinger TV was no walk in the park. Against the number 4 of the tournament, who also made it into the final without any problems, an exchange of blows that could hardly be surpassed in tension and drama developed on the sun-drenched center court of the UTC La Ville in the searing heat, which Sajadi finally won with 12:10 in the match tie-break. In the 6-man competition, the youth set another clear exclamation mark with the clear success of Hungary's Damian Kelemen, which was achieved without losing a set.

Talent factory TC Strebersdorf

Meanwhile, TC Strebersdorf advanced to become the most successful club of the third Generali Race to Kitzbühel weekend, with two "Kristal" awards from Fabian Dummer and Kevin Suppin. The triumph of Kevin Suppin was particularly impressive. A now 33 year old "talent" that TC Strebersdorf had apparently kept under lock and key until now. On the way to his premiere success in the 8th competition, the newcomer boxed the competition with one exception hammer hard from the title race. Only in the semifinals did the "late talent" almost stumble. Suppin only saved himself in the final via a match tie-break against Laurentiu Florea, where he left Robert Enderlein from Burgenland 6: 2, 6: 2 behind.

The Strebersdorfer double pack finally fixed in the ITN 7 competition the 21 year old Fabian Dummer, whose great overall performance with really great performances in the semifinals against Ali Sharif got a small blemish. There he made an unworthy performance in the second sentence. In one game he hobbled over the red ashes of the center court like a dying swan, only to run across the most impossible balls in sprint and top speed in the next game. Once he looked as dangerous as a house tiger on the living room couch and then again like a poisonous snake in attack mode. It was good that his opponent was Mister Mega-Cool Ali Sharif, who noticed the antics of his opponent, but owed them to the youth of his counterpart, wiping them off the table.

Finally, there is a real sensation to report as part of the Generali Race to Kitzbühel in UTC La Ville. Matthäus Kiang and Jakob Hofstetter are two young 15-year-old boys who did their own promotion in the double competition on Sunday evening and, above all, advertised the tiebreaker shootout counting system used at the Kitzbühel final tournament. With ITN values beyond "9", the teenage duo from the WAC struck in doubles. Kiang & Hofstetter delivered their hussar piece in the semifinals, where they used their 7-0 lead against the ITN 3.9 pairing Alexander Rieger-Lukas Schützenauer, and with a sensational total score of 10: 1 they stormed the final. At the end there was the revenge for the preliminary round defeat against David and Michael Klapil and with 11: 9 the deserved title and lead in the double race in the eastern region.
