Generali Race to Kitzbühel: Neudörfl brings six "new" tournament winners

On Sunday evening, after a total of six qualifying preliminary rounds in three federal states, the Generali Race to Kitzbühel in the eastern region also crossed the finish line. In the market town of Neudörfl in northern Burgenland, the amateur players of eastern Austria were at stake for the last time in the glamorous tennis and leisure facility Habeler & Knotzer for important race points and the final qualification for the upcoming final tournament in Going & Kitzbühel, which is on the program in two and a half weeks.

Shards are known to bring good luck! Accordingly, Bernhard Ungerböck should definitely travel to the Gamsstadt at the end of July and consider taking part in the final tournament of the Generali Race to Kitzbühel. Because the 33-year-old from Lower Austria crash-landed at the award ceremony for his success in the ITN 4.0 competition, contrary to his highly successful Neudörfl performance, and his turquoise shimmering crystal trophy shattered. In terms of sport, the trip to northern Burgenland for the 33-year-old from UTC Kirchschlag was a highly successful walk, apart from the crystal fall, which also enabled Ungerböck to qualify for the Kitzbühel final tournament and the chance to win the Cupra Born at the last possible moment.

Christian Schwarz wins the title after a dramatic match tiebreak decision

In the wake of Bernhard Ungerböck, Christian Schwarz ensured another tournament win for UTC Kirchschlag on Sunday evening. The 21-year-old had made it to the final without losing a set, and there in a dramatic match tie-break against Vitus Fath with 6: 2, 5: 7 and 11: 9 made the double pack triumph of the men from the Bucklige Welt perfect. Unlike his club colleague Bernhard Ungerböck, Schwarz did not get a ticket for the final tournament in Tyrol, but the Viennese Oliver Fischer can be happy about that, who lost in two sets against Schwarz in the quarter-finals on the center court of TC Neudörfl, with four points but could still jump to fourth place in the ITN category 5.0 race. Hiding his head under his towel, Vitus Fath, who was just defeated, sat on his bench after the end of the game, a little sad and disappointed, as he had just missed "his title" and the total triumph of the "Fath Brothers". What happened? Well, in the match tiebreaker, the 14-year-old first equalized a 7:9, only to mess up a forehand serve at 9:9!

Matteo Fath with title on debut as the third youngest tournament winner in HTT history since 1990

The outstanding impression that the Fath brothers made at the last Generali Race qualifier in northern Burgenland cannot, of course, be blurred by Vitus Fath's unfortunate finish of the match tie break. This was also due to the sensational debut of Matteo Fath, who turned the amateur tennis world upside down in one fell swoop in the 8.0 competition. Since the Generali Race to Kitzbühel is also part of the Hobby Tennis Tour this year and ranking list points go hand in hand with the performances of the hobby players, the brilliant performance of the youngster from the TWR Team Donaufeld took on almost historic proportions. Because of his age, a start in Kitzbühel was never an issue anyway, but his grandiose title win certainly is. Because at the age of 10 years, 10 months and 20 days Matteo Fath became the third youngest tournament winner in the long and traditional HTT history since 1990. Only Julius Jeitschko won his first title at the HTT Salzburg Future 2017 in Bergheim, which he won almost exactly five years ago 10 years, 4 months and 10 days and Annenheim Future Champion Simon Holzfeind with 10 years, 7 months and 15 days won their first HTT cup earlier. The tennis chick from Vienna left no doubt about the winner throughout the tournament and completed his successful run in Neudörfl with a 6:1, 6:2 victory over number two seeded David Poscharnig from Styria.

Andreas Schauer and Dieter Hanika complete the Lower Austria Festival at the Generali Race to Kitzbühel in Neudörfl

For the local tennis cracks from the land of castles there was nothing countable on the credit side this weekend, the guests from Vienna and Lower Austria presented themselves too well this time, who kidnapped all six Generali Race to Kitzbühel trophies from northern Burgenland. The blue and yellow success story from the weekend was completed by Andreas Schauer, who secured the long overdue first title in the 6-man competition, and with a 4:6, 6:0, 10:7 over Christopher Szigeti from TC Siegendorf also the hoped-for domestic triumph of one Burgenländer prevented. Not without stomachache and choking, after all, the 39-year-old from ASKÖ Breitenau had to go the full distance and a tight match tiebreak in each of his victorious matches, but in the end the likeable veteran even managed to win the premiere title Leap to first place in the final classification of the Generali Race to Kitzbühel. Another success for Lower Austria, but above all for himself, was Dieter Hanika from TC Ebergassing in the ITN 9.0 competition. The 51-year-old took revenge in a new edition of the Baden final against Carina Flammer for the final defeat two weeks ago, and with a 4:6, 6:4, 10:7 success he also jumped on the final train towards Kitzbühel at the last moment . As the only man, by the way, because the 9 series in this year's race was clearly shaped by the ladies, who will travel to Tyrol in a triple pack with Carina Flammer, Raphaela Höller and Nicole Wogritsch to hunt for the Cupra Born.

After zero in Linz to triumph in Neudörfl - Maxi Schenz celebrates a sporty resurrection of the extra class

We still have a look at the Neudörfler ITN 7.0 competition, and it produced a very special winner in Maximilian Schenz. Not because the young man's passport from UTC La Ville is only 13 years old, but because "Maxi" had to take part in the Generali Race to Kitzbühel in Linz five weeks ago, the total opposite of the triumphant last weekend. In the steel city, Schenz experienced a sporty Waterloo, crashed in two competitions with two double zeros, and had to return home broken and without winning a single game. But the boy has morals, got back up after the brutal low blow in Linz and played a sensational tournament double pack in the three Neudörfler days. Schenz traveled home unbeaten with one crystal and a semi-final, only the missed semi-final hit in the 8-man competition against the eventual winner Matteo Fath spoiled the joy of the local fans a little. Finally, one more thing to note. All amateur players who missed the qualification in the east can take their very last chance to get a starting place for the showdown from July 28th to 30th at the big Generali Race to Kitzbühel qualification final 2022 in Going next weekend .
