Maria dropped just one set throughout the tournament. In the final she beat the American Alycia Parks 6:4, 4:6 and 6:2 and thus won her 16th title on the ITF tour. Maria won her first WTA event in Mallorca in 2018.

Maria returned to the tour after the birth of her daughter Cecilia in July last year. Most recently, she made a strong showing in her opening game against Maria Sakkari for the Australians. She has now confirmed her form: Maria won out of qualification in Rome, so she had to play seven games in one week.

The former number 46 also went up in the world rankings again, thanks to the tournament victory she made up more than 70 places and is again among the top 250 tennis players in the world.

In general, Maria still benefits from her "Protected Ranking". Before her pregnancy she was in the top 100. However, she saved it for the tournament in Rome and started with her "official" position.

This week Maria is at the start of the ITF tournament in Grenobles/France, where she meets Ysaline Bonaventure at the start.
