Jannik Sinner - "The situation in America is not very rosy"

The international tennis circus is scheduled to resume operations in mid-August. However, more and more doubts are being raised as to whether the hard court tournaments in the United States can take place at all due to the tense corona situation in North America. Travel restrictions and impending quarantine represent additional hurdles for players from all over the world. Jannik Sinner also doubts his participation.

"I don't know," the 18-year-old Italian replied after his defeat at bett1ACES in Hangar 6 of Berlin's former Tempelhof airport when asked if he had any reservations about flying across the pond.
“The situation in America is currently not very rosy. If I have to be in quarantine for two weeks after my return, I would probably prefer to stay in Europe. In Italy, I could start the clay court season by participating in some high-end Challenger events. ”

From August 17th, tournaments in Todi, Trieste, Cordenons and Perugia will be on the updated calendar of the ATP Challenger Tour.

Good results in Berlin

Despite all the uncertainties, Sinner is hot for match practice again. The international exhibition series in Berlin came just in time.
"After four months without a competition, I now had four good matches here," Sinner was visibly satisfied with his return to the pitch. With victories over Roberto Bautista Agut and Karen Khachanov, the Italian was able to achieve two successes over top 15 players before losing to Dominic Thiem in the final on Sunday. Also at the grass event held at the Steffi Graf Stadium in Grunewald at the beginning of last week, Sinner reached the semi-finals by defeating old champion Tommy Haas before the trip ended again against the Austrian.

During the Corona mandatory break, the teenager mainly kept fit with his athletic trainer in his Monaco apartment. “I've been training every day since I returned from Indian Wells. Time has actually passed relatively quickly. I was also at home in South Tyrol for a few days. I then flew to Berlin from a training camp in Elba with Riccardo Piatti. ”

For Berlin, Sinner is going home again. After that, it remains to be seen whether, when and where the tour will resume.
