Juan Martin Del Potro has to postpone his planned comeback on the ATP tour this autumn and therefore cannot participate in the Erste Bank Open from October 19 to 27, 2019 in the Wiener Stadthalle. “Juan Martin Del Potro worked intensely on his return after his kneecap fracture, which he contracted at the Queen's Club in London last June. Unfortunately, the injury has not healed completely, so he is forced to wait a little longer for his comeback, ”explains tournament director Herwig Straka.

For Del Potro, who won the Erste Bank Open in 2012, the strong Russian Andrey Rublev moves into the main field. With Andy Murray, another Vienna triumphant (2014, 2016) is a “hot” candidate for a wildcard. The Scotsman recently showed a strong rise with the advance to the quarterfinals of Beijing, where he delivered the eventual tournament winner Dominic Thiem a high-class duel. "We are in constant contact with Andy Murray and have reserved a wildcard for him. His appearance in Vienna would be another great asset for an extremely strong tournament, ”emphasizes Straka.
