In the show competition in Boston between Team Europe and the rest of the world, however, the defending champion is "only" 3-1 ahead after the Hamburg Zverev and Wimbledon finalist Berrettini in the final doubles against John Isner / Denis Shapovalov (USA / Canada ) 6: 4, 6: 7 (2: 7), 1:10 lost.

Before that, Team Europe had won all the singles and brought the favorites on course: Casper Ruud won against Reilly Opelka (6: 3, 7: 6 (4)), Matteo Berrettini won against Felix Auger-Aliassime (6: 7 ( 3), 7: 5, [10: 8]) and Andrej Rublev beat Diego Schwartzman (4: 6, 6: 3, [11: 9]).

On Saturday, US Open semi-finalist Zverev will face Isner again, this time in an individual (2nd match after 7 p.m. CEST). Before that, Stefanos Tsitsipas will play against Nick Kyrgios.

Alexander Zverev: "Everyone is here to win"

"We're all here to win," said Zverev, who has lifted the trophy in the three previous editions of the team competition based on the Ryder Cup for golfers.

Since the superstars Roger Federer (Switzerland) and Rafael Nadal (Spain) are absent due to injury and the Serbian industry leader Novak Djokovic did not start, Zverev leads the European selection in Boston together with US Open winner Daniil Medvedev (Russia) and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas on.

There are three singles and one doubles each from Friday to Sunday, and more points are awarded for victories every day. As in the first three comparisons of the invitation tournament, which fell victim to the corona pandemic last year, this time too the favorite role is clearly with Team Europe under Captain Björn Borg.

All six European players are classified in the top 10 of the world rankings. The world selection, supervised by John McEnroe, is led by Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov (ATP-11th and -12th).
