It was bad news that Austrian young hopefuls Lukas Neumayer announced on Friday via Instagram. The Salzburg man has torn a meniscus and has to undergo an operation. An unplanned break for the 18-year-old, who was recently able to set his first fragrance brands at future level and had reached the round of 16 in Tunisia.

How long this break lasts depends on the type of intervention, as the Salzburg native explains to tennisnet.com: "It depends on whether you have to sew it or not. If you sew it, it will take a little longer then I'll probably have to take a break for four or weeks. Otherwise I can train again in three weeks. " How exactly the injury came about cannot be said without a doubt: "I must have taken a wrong step somewhere."

"Will start rehab immediately"

In the case of such an injury, there is no alternative to surgery, as Neumayer emphasizes: "It was the best option. If I hadn't had an operation, it would have always been there, then it would have gotten worse and worse. The operation then but the problem out of the world. " The way back should now take place in the fast lane, as Lukas Neumayer reveals: "I will undergo the operation on Monday and then immediately start the rehab so that I can be back as soon as possible"

For the man from Salzburg, this year it's about making the transition from junior level to the ITF Future Tour. The Austrian celebrated his first victory in these new regions at the start of the year, most recently touring mainly through North Africa. And that with ambitious goals in his luggage, the Salzburg native wants to move up to 600th place in the world rankings by the end of the year. A plan that an unfortunate injury now stands in the way of implementing.
