Milos Raonic had a solid 2020, with some notable results. But again without a tournament victory (the career record still only shows eight, the last came in 2016 in Brisbane). The 29-year-old was closest in Cincinnati / New York when he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final. The quarter-finals of the Australian Open had already ended against the industry leader. Incidentally, Raonic had defeated one of the young guard, Stefanos Tsitsipas.

He plays in the generation of Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime. The two youngsters also left many chances in 020, Auger-Aliassime is still waiting for his first tournament success. Most recently he lost to Alexander Zverev in the Cologne 1 final. So it's not surprising that Milos Raonic has been voted Canada's Tennis Piercer of the Year for the eighth time in the last ten years. Even if he lost what was probably the most important meeting against a fellow countryman in the past season: against Vasek Pospisil at the US Open.

For women, the Canadians made the choice much easier: Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open winner, could not contest a single match this year. And Eugenie Boucard continues to be on the spot. So Leylah Annie Fernandez was honored. The winners in the young talent competition at the French Open 2019 climbed to 88th place in the WTA world rankings and reached the first final of their young career in Acapulco. The annual record with 20 wins and only ten defeats was quite impressive for the 18-year-old left-hander.
