According to his brother, Alexander Zverev wants to compete in the Davis Cup for Germany again in the future. "Germany is very important to him, also as a country. Sascha really wants to play the ATP and Davis Cup for Germany," said Mischa Zverev, who will take over the management of the world number seven after separating from the Team8 agency, in an interview with Eurosport.

In the first and so far last edition of the Davis Cup finals in 2019, Alexander Zverev did not participate because the late date at the end of the year did not fit into his planning. However, at the same time as the final tournament in Madrid, Zverev went on an extended trip to South America with Roger Federer to contest exhibition matches in several countries.

The 23-year-old was also missing in the successful qualifying round against Belarus last year. Due to the corona pandemic, the final round was canceled last year, which is why Germany is already qualified for this year's edition (November 25th to December 5th). Germany was drawn into a group with Serbia and Austria. Should the respective top players from these three countries compete, there could be a summit meeting between Zverev with Dominic Thiem and world number one Novak Djokovic . It is not yet clear where the preliminary round will be played: the ITF announced at the beginning of the week that two other cities are being sought in addition to Madrid. The Austrian Tennis Association (ÖTV) has expressed its interest, and the German Tennis Association (DTB) could also be involved.

Mischa Zverev captain at the ATP Cup

Born in Hamburg, Alexander Zverev now lives in Monte Carlo. According to Mischa Zverev, his brother's bond with Germany is still great. "Many say he is an international star in an international sport," said the 33-year-old: "That may well be, but in the end you come from Germany anyway, you come back home and that is of course very, very much important for an athlete and especially for Sascha. "

At the ATP Cup, which is played as a national tournament similar to the Davis Cup and takes place in the run-up to the Australian Open from February 1st to 5th, Mischa Zverev is the captain of the German team. In addition to his brother, Jan-Lennard Struff and the French Open winners Kevin Krawietz / Andreas Mies compete for Germany. The groups will be drawn on Friday, January 22nd. Last year the German team was accompanied by Boris Becker as captain.
