Rafael Nadal has returned to training just a week and a half after pulling out of the Wimbledon semi-final against Nick Kyrgios through injury. As pictures on social media show, the 22-time Grand Slam winner trained on Monday at the "Rafa Nadal Academy" in Mallorca.

The healing process of his abdominal muscle injury suffered at Wimbledon is apparently going according to plan. The 36-year-old had already announced in London that he wanted to be back on the court after about a week. Nadal only has to be patient for a few more days when serving.

However, nothing should stand in the way of participating in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal. As tournament director Eugene Lapierre recently announced, Nadal wants to return to the tour in Canada. The Spaniard has already booked his hotel room, Lapierre revealed at a press conference.

Since Nadal is not currently planning to start in Cincinnati, the event in Montreal should serve as his only preparatory tournament for the US Open. In New York, due to the expected absence of Novak Djokovic , the third in the world rankings has the chance to extend his lead in the all-time Grand Slam leaderboard to two titles again.
