Nick Kyrgios won't be playing on clay this year

It is well known that Nick Kyrgios is not that big a fan of the clay court season. "Clay court tennis isn't really tennis for me. It doesn't ask for creativity at all. It's all about fitness and who can last the longest," said the 25-year-old a little less than three years ago on the sidelines of the ATP tournament meant in Atlanta .

In view of this fact and the ongoing corona pandemic, it is not really surprising that the Australian will not contest a single tournament on ashes this year. In addition to the tournaments in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome and Madrid, Kyrgios also skips the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, the French Open.

Return to Stuttgart?

When the world number 57. will return to the ATP tour is not yet known. Of course, the organizers of the ATP 250 lawn tournament in Stuttgart, which is to take place from June 7th to 13th, can raise their hopes. After all, grass is the 25-year-old's absolute favorite surface.

By the way, Kyrgios completed his last match at the Australian Open against Dominic Thiem. In an epic third round match, the local hero was defeated by the reigning US Open champion in five sets. Even after the defeat, the Canberra man hadn't expressed much interest in returning to the ATP tour soon. Kyrgios now evidently follows up these words with deeds.
