No points at Wimbledon? First players mock

At the 2022 Wimbledon tournament, no points will be awarded for the world rankings, neither for women nor for men. That annoys the first professionals.

Marton Fucsovics disagrees with ATP's decision

Well, who else has Novak Djokovic 's quarter-final opponent in Wimbledon 2021 on the list? Of course: it was Marton Fucsovics, the brave Hungarian, who had to admit defeat to the eventual champion in three sets. Not quite a year later, Djokovic and Fucsovics are back in the same boat: as the players who have a lot to lose due to the ATP's decision not to award points for the 2022 Wimbledon tournament. With Djokovic there are 2,000 points that simply fall out of the rating.

With that, the Serb will lose the lead in the ATP world rankings, depending on how the French Open goes, either to Daniil Medvedev , Alexander Zverev or Stefanos Tsitsipas , maybe even to Rafael Nadal. Of course, twice as bitter for Djokovic: Because at the beginning of the year he was not allowed to compete at the Australian Open because he was not vaccinated and could not defend his two kilos there.

On the other hand: Djokovic will be able to cope, in the summer he does not have many points to defend, so a return to the top of the ATP charts cannot be ruled out. For Marton Fucsovics, the deletion of the 180 points for the quarter-finals in Wimbledon 2021 will have almost dramatic sporting consequences: Fucsovics will then drop from 55th place to around 130th. If he doesn't put in a great run in the coming weeks before the classic lawn on Church Road.

This is significant because it means that the ticket for the main fields in tournaments on the ATP tour is lost. So it's no wonder that Fucsovics wasn't exactly happy about the ATP's decision.

Berrettini, Shapovalov as big losers

Other players who will be hit hard by the loss of points: Matteo Berrettini, last year's finalist and currently out of action with an injury, will lose 1,200 points. As of now, Berrettini would still remain in the top 20 overall. Denis Shapovalov, who lost to Djokovic in the semifinals in 2021, loses 720 points. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, are “profiteers”, who either lose no points at all (Tsitsipas and Sinner) or only a few points (Alcaraz with 45) in their ranking. Nadal lost 360 points for his semifinals in 2019 (!).

For many players (the WTA has also decided to devalue the Wimbledon tournament in terms of points), Wmbledon is "only" about the prize money. Which is also important. But just like the world ranking counters. The first reactions in Roland Garros will be exciting: There have been no official press conferences since the decision was announced.
