The conditions at MTTC Iphitos were not easy on Thursday either, when a total of six round of 16 matches were scheduled. In the very first match on Center Court, Taylor Fritz won comfortably against Thiem's conqueror Alejandro Moro Canas 6:3 and 6:1, thus not holding up Holger Rune's Munich debut in 2024. The Dane had to play against Daniel Elahi Galan - and was out again after only two points played. Due to a rain shower.

After the match resumed, Rune was clearly the better player, but missed numerous chances to score a clearer result than 6-4, especially in the first set. In the second set, the Dane quickly took a 4-0 lead and then confidently brought the match to a close despite the rain starting again.

Zverev loses to Garin in Munich in 2019

Meanwhile, on the second largest court, Cristian Garin, the 2019 Munich champion, and the young American Alex Michelsen finished their round of 16. Garin won 6:7 (7), 6:2 and 6:1 and will be Alexander Zverev's opponent in the quarterfinals scheduled for tomorrow. On his way to the title five years ago, Garin also beat Zverev.

Taylor Fritz's quarter-final opponent has already been decided since yesterday: Fritz will have to play against Jack Draper, who was able to keep Rudi Molleker at bay in three sets.
