Instead, the 31-year-old wants to concentrate fully on the ATP Cup, which will be held in Australia at the beginning of next year. From 3rd to 12th January 24 nations will fight for the title.

The Serb's cancellation means the next setback for the Kosmos group around football professional Gerard Pique. Previously, Alexander Zverev and Juan Martin del Potro had canceled the final tournament , Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Kevin Anderson and Dominic Thiem will not serve in the Caja Magica anyway due to the missing qualification.

Many successes for Serbia

Djokovic won the Davis Cup title with Serbia in 2010. Overall, the 15-time Grand Slam champion won 31 of his 38 matches for his home country. In addition, "Nole" won the bronze medal for Serbia at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

Without the industry leader, the chances of the Serbs in Group A against France and Japan to rise. Only the group first and the two best group runners make the leap from one of the six groups into the quarter-finals. The starting shot for the one-week final tournament is on November 18.
