Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

In 2008, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga literally stormed into the final of the Australian Open: In his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal, the Frenchman attacked continuously, creating a second home between the network and the T-Line. It wasn't enough for the really big coup - Novak Djokovic left Melbourne after a four-set victory as a champion.

On Thursday the two veterans will meet again in Australia for the 23rd time on the ATP tour. Djokovic is clearly ahead in a direct comparison, the Serb won 16 of the matches. And of course goes into the game as a favorite. Especially since Tsonga only came into the tableau with a wildcard after an injury-ridden 2018 season.

A big win for Tsonga

In round one, both players had no problems, in the case of Djokovic this was no surprise against the US qualifier Mitchell Krueger. Tsonga, on the other hand, had drawn the always uncomfortable Martin Klizan, but still prevailed in three sentences.

The last game between Tsonga and Djokovic dates from the US Open 2016, the Frenchman had to give up early at the time. Tsonga was last successful on hard court in Montreal in 2014. At Grand Slam tournaments, the Frenchman has only one success against Novak Djokovic - but at least at the Australian Open: In 2010, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won in the quarter-finals in five sets.
