Germany's top player Alexander Zverev still has a chance of winning two medals at the Olympic tennis tournament in Tokyo. After reaching the round of 16 in singles, the Hamburger reached the quarter-finals in doubles on Tuesday. At the side of Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein), Zverev prevailed against the French Jeremy Chardy and Gael Monfils 6: 4, 7: 5.
The duo now meets Austin Krajicek / Tennys Sandgren (USA). In the individual, Zverev's Olympic debut is now against Nikoloz Basilashvili. Like Zverev, the Georgian has won two tournaments on the ATP tour this season, including the clay court tournament in Munich. The match will take place on Wednesday as the third game after 4:00 a.m. CEST, but rain has been announced. Zverev and Struff had to wait a long time for their game on Tuesday.
The two-time French Open champion Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz had to tick off their dream of a common medal . The duo from Coburg and Frankfurt / Main were defeated by two-time individual Olympic champions Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury (Great Britain) 2: 6, 6: 7 (2: 7) and missed the quarter-finals.
