The list of winners at the Orange Bowl, arguably the most important tournament for juniors and young people, reads like a who's who of international tennis. Roger Federer did well in Florida in 1998, one year after the 2004 Olympic champion and current coach of Dominic Thiem , Nicolas Massu, and as the predecessor of Andy Roddick, who won the title in 1999. Speaking of Thiem: The current US Open champion won the title in 2011, then slowly started his triumphal march on the ATP tour. It looks similar with the girls: Cori Gauff won the tournament in 2018, now the 16-year-old is firmly established on the WTA tour.

In the current competition, two Austrians were represented in the tableau: Marko Andrejic, who had accompanied the Austrian team to the ATP Cup 2020 as a training partner, had to beat Frenchman Luca Van Assche 6: 7 (7) and 1: 6 in round one give up. Lukas Neumayer, on the other hand, starts the competition in third place with a bye. And will also play against a French player at the start of round two, namely against Arthur Fils.

Neumayer delivered some talent samples at the Generali Austrian Pro Series during the Corona break, most recently he was in the round of the last eight in Roland Garros. There Neumayer was defeated by the eventual winner Dominic Stephan Stricker. Neumayer occupies 27th place in the current ITF Junior World Ranking.

The only German participant made it into the second round: Mika Lipp defeated the American Christopher Krug 7: 6 (6), 6: 2 and now meets the Mexican Alfonso Rafael de Alba Vasquez, who was ninth.
