Philipp Oswald: No ATP Cup, but more quality time with the family
Double specialist Philipp Oswald will fly to Australia a week later than planned. After the withdrawal of the Austrian team from the ATP Cup, the Vorarlberg will only join the competition in the second week of the tournament in 2022.

Philipp Oswald can currently be reached in Dornbirn. It was not planned that way, the Austrian doubles specialist actually wanted to attack the ATP Cup from New Year's Day in Sydney, alongside Oliver Marach. But then with Dennis Novak's cancellation the certainty came that the red-white-red team would be missing from the third edition of the new team competition. Dominic Thiem had already declared himself unavailable a few weeks ago.
What now means for Philipp Oswald: Train at home for an extra week. The veteran wanted to set off for Australia on December 28, two days before the news came from Novak. Oswald would have loved to play at the ATP Cup, now flights have to be rebooked and the entry formalities canceled and re-submitted.
Oswald 2022 with Middelkoop
The entry deadline for the first tournaments of the new season was of course long over. "And my partner for 2022, Matwe Middelkoop, has been looking for someone else for the first week," Oswald told tennisnet.com.
The early start to the season was shaky anyway, and not just for sporting reasons. “My wife and I were expecting a child who luckily came on December 16th. Everything went smoothly. ”The damage caused by the cancellation of the ATP Cup is already remarkable from a financial point of view, but on the other hand he now has an extra week with the family. "My wife is very happy that she is not all alone with a two-week-old baby and a two-year-old son."
With his planned playmate at the ATP Cup, Oliver Marach, he would have contacted on Tuesday, but had not yet received an answer. For Marach it would have been the last trip to Australia. It remains to be seen whether the Styrian who lives in Panama will still come down under. Especially since Marach would also have to look for a partner for the Australian Open.
