Pique's Kosmos investment firm is funding the event, which is scheduled to take place in the Spanish capital from November 23 to 29.

"There is a lot of uncertainty. We try to always know what the government is saying about the sport and whether we can allow viewers," said Pique at Movistar-TV. "I would say I'm a bit pessimistic because a Davis Cup final without fans is difficult. Nobody knows at the moment whether the games should take place without spectators," said Pique.

Germany will face Serbia and Austria in the final round of the best 18 teams in the preliminary round group F. The preliminary round will be played in six groups of three.

The "new" Davis Cup took place last year, Rafael Nadal had led Spain to the title here.
