"I'm not sure if I will play another tournament this year. I will decide that in the next few days," said Rafael Nadal in the press conference after his 13th triumph at the French Open. A little more than a week later, the Mallorcan has now decided: He will continue his season.
Nadal will return to the tour at the indoor tournament in Paris-Bercy. "We live in difficult and different times. I came back from Paris eight days ago and now I am preparing for my next tournament: the indoor event in Paris-Bercy," wrote the 20-time Grand Slam winner on Instagram .
It should also be clear that the 34-year-old will start at the ATP Finals in London. On the other hand, Nadal does not appear at the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna . Nevertheless, the Iberian could still finish the year as world number one. In addition to slips by Novak Djokovic, the Mallorcan also needs two tournament victories in Paris and London.
A look into the past shows that these will be anything but easy to achieve: the world number two has not yet won either the indoor event in the French capital or the year-end finale in his career. At least in Paris, the chance of a tournament victory is probably better than seldom before: After Djokovic's cancellation , Nadal will be in first place at the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year.
