Rafael Nadal - Not enjoying ghost games

Rafael Nadal is realistic, if slightly optimistic, about the further development of the tennis year 2020.

You are certainly not far from the absolute truth if you say: Rafael Nadal inspires tennis audiences like no other. And let the audience inspire you like no other. If there were really high sporting events in late summer, then the Spaniard would miss a lot under the given, spectatorless circumstances.

"It is possible," Nadal told a French radio station these days. “Football is played behind closed doors. But when asked if I like it, my answer is no. Nothing can replace the presence of the audience and the energy it can generate. ”

Nadal worried about security

The good news in this regard is that the French Tennis Federation has recently become increasingly optimistic about the French Open, which was held in late September. Bernard Giudicelli, president of the association, even considered the option of letting up to 25,000 fans into the Stade Roland Garros a few days ago. Also to see the defending champion Rafael Nadal.

“If it is possible to play in optimal conditions and in total safety when we are all together, I will be there. But at the moment we still have to take precautions and make responsible decisions to guarantee the safety and health of everyone in tennis. ”

The American association USTA is currently working on how something like this could look: there they are considering bringing the traditional tournament from Cincinnati to New York City and within four weeks in a bubble separated from the environment, two major tennis events without pulling through spectators (and for the most part also without supervisors).
