"We are happy and proud that we were able to hire such a deserving former player as the new Fed Cup captain," said DTB President Ulrich Klaus on the successor to Jens Gerlach. "I am sure that he will prepare our ladies for the qualifying match against Brazil in the reformed Fed Cup - because our goal is to reach the final round in Budapest."

"Rainer brings all the experience that a good team leader needs. We have known and appreciated each other for many years, "says Head of Women's Tennis Barbara Rittner. "His professional and human competence is undisputed. I am very happy that we were able to win him for this important position. "

In his long and successful career as a professional player Rainer Schüttler has achieved, among other things, the final of the Australian Open (2003) and won together with Nicolas Kiefer at the Olympic Games in Athens (2004) the silver medal. In the world rankings, he was ranked fifth for best positioning. In the Davis Cup, he ran for ten years for the German team.

Last coach of Angelique Kerber

Even after his active career, he has remained faithful to tennis as a tournament director of the ATP event in Geneva and as a coach, among others by the three times Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber.

"Being a Fed Cup captain is an exciting task and a great challenge that I am very happy about. For ten years I was part of the German Davis Cup team and it's great to be back in a team competition - albeit in a different capacity. We have a very good team with extraordinary players and I hope that together we will have a lot of success ", says Rainer Schüttler.
