"Back to work," wrote the 20-time Grand Slam winner. Federer had an arthroscopy in his right knee in February, and the procedure had to be repeated in June. He canceled all tournaments for 2020 early on. He announced that he would be back on tour at the Australian Open in 2021 . There he reached the semi-finals last January.

Federer's trainer Ivan Ljubicic reported in an interview with the oktennis.it website that the recovery phase was going very well. "He trains more and more and is getting better and better," said the Croatian. "I'm excited to see how much it will improve. But there is a lot of self-confidence." Ljubicic did not want to announce another tournament schedule beyond Melbourne. In any case, Federer wants to travel to Australia early.

Regarding an upcoming end of Federer's career, Ljubicic said: "He has no fixed period, of course I hope for many more years."

The tournaments in 2021 are not yet secured due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Australian Open should take place in any case. The start is planned for January 18th. The organizers of the first Grand Slam of the year have been working for several months on a safe staging in times of the pandemic.
