In the end, ten strong minutes were enough for Federer to achieve his third success in a third comparison with Medvedev: the 20-time major champion first won the Russian's serve 5: 4 and a few moments later fought off three chances from Medvedev for the rebreak. 6: 4 after only 32 minutes of play. And Federer followed up with the next break in the second round. Daniil Medvedev put the final death kick in the seventh game - by making a double mistake again. Federer served after 6 minutes to 6: 4 and 6: 2.

In the end, Federer had 22 direct points - and made only eight mistakes.

In the quarterfinals, Roger Federer meets Kevin Anderson on Thursday. The South African had prevailed against Jordan Thompson from Australia on Tuesday. Federer has a 5: 1 record against Anderson. The Maestro's only defeat last year was in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
