As the Swiss NOK Swiss Olympic announced on Monday, the Wimbledon record winner was nominated for the summer games (July 23rd to August 8th). Whether he will actually start for the fifth time in his career at the Olympics, however, Federer will only decide after the current tournament in Wimbledon.

In 2008 in Beijing, Federer won gold in doubles with Stan Wawrinka, followed by silver in singles in London in 2012. He missed the tournament in Rio 2016 due to an injury. The three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka announced last Tuesday that he would not participate in the Olympics because of the consequences of a foot operation.

The Swiss Olympic line-up comprises a total of 116 athletes; This means that the Swiss have the largest delegation since the Games in Atlanta in 1996. Chef de Mission Ralph Stöckli awarded more than seven medals as an objective.
