Roger Federer and Dubai are success stories. The Swiss has been training here in the off-season for years, here Federer won his 100th tournament title in 2019. At the moment, the 38-year-old is preparing for the upcoming season, which for him will only officially begin with the Australian Open . The Hopman Cup, most recently the starting point for Federer's tennis season, fell victim to the ATP Cup. Roger Federer will not take part in this, but would rather spend more time with the family.

First of all, Christmas is celebrated. And with a real Christmas tree, as Federer said in an interview with the Swiss Blick newspaper. He would have preferred to celebrate in his home country, also because his own memories of Christmas are based there. The Federer family will make up for this in the coming years. Especially since his wife Mirka is very attached to Switzerland. "Otherwise we would not have built there three times," said Federer.

Tsitsipas the next number one for Federer

As the last sporting impression of the past season, the ATP final in London resulted in a success against Novak Djokovic (the first since 2015) and the semi-final loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas. What Federer confirmed in his 2020 goal. "To be honest, I would like to win a big title," said the 20-time major champion. The win over Djokovic and the success against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon would have shown him that he was able to do that. In Wimbledon's final, only one stroke was missing.

In addition, the Olympic Games are coming up, at which Roger Federer is aiming for a medal. And who would have thought that maybe after Tokyo it would be over: Far from it. Federer would like to qualify for the “World Cup” in London again next year. But every title is important to him. At the moment it stands at 103. And it is always nice to leave a tournament location with a success.

When asked about the upcoming number one, Federer said that after the impressions of the ATP Finals you almost had to bet on Stefanos Tsitsipas . The maestro also included Alexander Zverev, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev in the series of young players who could be successful several times in Grand Slam tournaments.
