When will Roger Federer have reason to cheer again?

Roger Federer's knee seems to be doing quite well so far. The Maestro underwent an operation after a very arduous Australian Open tournament, which nevertheless ended in the semi-finals - and only wanted to return to the ATP tour for the lawn season. With the cancellation to be expected tomorrow Wednesday, Federer probably has even more time to get himself in shape again.

Federer is currently at home in Switzerland, where winter has returned for a few hours (as was also the case in Moscow, as Karen Khachanov also posted on Twitter). A few balls on the wall were always there for Federer - and that on a rather slippery terrain. Federer does not know what a possible comeback plan could look like.

Federer's return is probably in Toronto at the earliest

Should the ATP decide to start playing again in Hamburg (start on July 13th), Federer's start cannot be assumed. The almost 39-year-old had no big plans for sand this year - even if in the current situation a perhaps last appearance at the home tournament in Gstaad (start on July 20) could be attractive. Federer last served on Rothenbaum in 2013, losing to Federico Delbonis in the semifinals. Then it went on to Gstaad, where Daniel Brands had already eliminated the local favorite in the first match.

It would be much more likely to return to the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Canada, which is scheduled to take place in Toronto this summer. As of August 10th, it was immediately followed by the classic in Cincinnati. In view of the current situation in Canada and especially the USA, the expectations of getting top tennis again relatively soon should be kept very low. Also regarding the US Open in New York City, the corona epicenter in the United States, at the end of August.
