Match of the day: Andy Murray vs. Stan Wawrinka (not before 8:15 p.m., Court Philippe-Chatrier)

Andy Murray and Roland-Garros were never a great love affair. But the Scotsman did play well from time to time. Even if Murray didn't travel to Paris at all in between. And now a fun fact: in his last two appearances in 2017 and 2020, the two-time Olympic champion was eliminated in the first round. And both times against Stan Wawrinka. He has to face him again today in prime time. Would you have actually been able to get betting odds for that? After all, the grid is 128 players. But hey, Murray leads the head-to-head 13:9. And perhaps this will be his last appearance at the French Open. Which also applies to Stan Wawrinka. So it could be an early ride into the sunset in any case.

We are curious about this: Naomi Osaka vs. Lucia Bronzetti (12pm, Court Philippe-Chatrier)

Osaka made a very fit impression during her short days in Paris. And she appeared very composed at her press conference. The red clay was never her favorite surface (nor was the green). But she seems to have made peace with the Terre Battue. We are curious to see how far this new approach will take her.

Upset alert: Harold Mayot vs. Sebastian Korda (fourth match after 11am on Court 14)

Who upsets whom, you ask? Good question. But since Korda is seeded 27th, he is already the favorite in this match. After all, Mayot needed a wildcard. Last year, Sebastian Korda watched against his namesake Ofner, this time he has Radek Stepanek with him. The motivation and frustration tolerance should be a little higher than it was twelve months ago.

German is spoken: Lys, Siegemund, Niemeier, Maria, Ofner, Marterer, Altmaier in action

Eva Lys could well pull off a surprise against Caroline Garcia (third match after 12 noon on the Chatrier), while a win for Laura Siegemund against Sofia Kenin (second match after 11 a.m. on the Simonne-Mathieu) would almost be expected; Jule Niemeier is only an outsider on paper against Xinyu Wang (fourth match on Court 9), Tatjana Maria has to solve the mystery of Clara Tauson in the third match on Court 12. Sebastian Ofner will also play on Court 5 against Terence Atmane in the fourth match, and Maxi Marterer will face Jordan Thompson in the second match on Court 9. Daniel Altmaier will then close Court 12 against Lasso Deere.
