Alexander Zverev also solved the tricky task against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov at the French Open and is in the quarterfinals of the clay court Grand Slam. The Olympic champion won 6:1, 6:4 and 6:3 after a strong performance and, after a long injury break, took the next step back to the top of the world. Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who defeated Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6 (8), 6-0 and 6-1, is waiting in the quarter-finals.
"The way I played and that I'm back in the quarter-finals is great," said Zverev in an on-court interview with Fabrice Santoro immediately after the game: "I couldn't run for weeks after my injury , and now here I am again."
Zverev is in the quarter-finals in Paris for the fifth time in his career and is fighting for the third semi-final in a row on Wednesday. After a mixed preparation for the tournament, this is already a success - but the 26-year-old also benefited from a favorable draw.
